Best Pet Grooming Software With AI in 2026, Ranked

$2,388 against $4,200.

Same salon, same year, two platforms. Neither figure appears on either pricing page. The salon is real: two groomers outside Austin, about 180 online bookings a month, three people on the platform, roughly $45K monthly revenue. I ran their profile against every vendor's published pricing, first in April and then again in August after three vendors moved their numbers. On almost every one, the gap between headline and invoice was wider than I expected.

The best pet grooming software with AI in 2026 is Talopet, at 9.2 out of 10 on a six category rubric weighted 30% toward AI phone answering, 20% real twelve month cost, 15% fee-structure honesty, 15% operational depth, 10% payment freedom, and 10% data portability. MoeGo scores 6.8, Gingr 6.4, DaySmart Pet 4.8, GrooMore 3.8. Every weight and score is published below. Change them and rerun it.

The rubric, with the weights stated out loud

Most rankings hide the weighting. That's the trick. Once you decide how much phones matter relative to price, the order is determined, and a ranking that won't tell you its weights is an opinion in a lab coat.

  • AI phone answering, 30%. Does it answer a ringing phone at 8 PM and book the appointment, without a second vendor and a second bill?
  • Real twelve month cost, 20%. Total spend for the Austin profile with per-user fees, per-booking fees, processing markups, and required add-ons included. Scored for a salon that needs the whole job done, so a tool that's cheap because it can't do the job scores low, not high.
  • Fee-structure honesty, 15%. How far the invoice drifts from the advertised number.
  • Operational depth, 15%. Multi-service scheduling, boarding and daycare, reporting, how it holds up past six staff.
  • Payment freedom, 10%. Can you bring a Square, Stripe, or Clover reader you own?
  • Data portability, 10%. Can you get your client list out, and what does getting in cost?

Thirty percent on phones is the aggressive choice and I'll defend it. Small grooming businesses miss 15 or more calls a month, and each one is a booking that goes to whoever picks up. If your number feels lower, hold that thought. Laurel has something to say below.

Two things disqualify a platform before I score anything

We would not rank a platform at any price if it fails either of two tests: you can't export your own client and pet records in a usable format, or you're forced onto proprietary payment hardware with a markup you can't opt out of. Both are hostage-taking dressed up as integration. No feature list compensates for software that owns your client list. None of the five failed outright, though two came close on the second.

We also won't let an affiliate payout quietly decide the order, which is the other thing wrong with most roundups. Nobody here paid us.

The scores

1. Talopet, 9.2. Perfect on phones because the receptionist is included rather than upsold, and because the AI runs the account instead of drafting message copy. Loses real points on depth.

  • Phones 10, cost 9, fee honesty 10, depth 6, payment freedom 10, portability 10
  • About $2,388 a year on the $199/mo Growth plan, the tier where the AI receptionist is included. No per-booking fee, no per-user fee, no processing markup. Plans run $99, $199, and $299 at talopet.com/pricing
  • Bring your own reader, free migration, month to month

2. MoeGo, 6.8. The strongest of the rest, though the margin over Gingr is narrower than it looks. Genuinely good software. Its AI is scheduling help and message drafting rather than a receptionist that picks up, which is why it scores 4 in the heaviest category. Excellent mobile app.

  • Phones 4, cost 9, fee honesty 9, depth 8, payment freedom 5, portability 8
  • April model: about $4,200 real against a $99 headline, driven by per-user pricing across three staff, an online booking fee, and the AI add-on
  • Detail in Talopet vs MoeGo and the MoeGo alternative breakdown

3. Gingr, 6.4. It beats us on operational depth by a wider margin than anyone else here, taking the only 10 we awarded outside our own column. Run a resort with boarding, daycare, training, and grooming under one roof and Gingr handles it better than we do today. It is also the vendor whose numbers improved most since April, and the score moved to match.

  • Phones 3, cost 8, fee honesty 7, depth 10, payment freedom 6, portability 7
  • August model: about $1,308 a year on Spa at $109/mo, the tier that fits the Austin profile. That is cheaper than our own $2,388. The $5,400 we published in April came from the private-quote era and no longer holds, which is why cost moved from 7 to 8.
  • The payment lock-in is still real, but it is disclosed on Gingr's own pricing page: Stay is $179/mo with integrated payments, $209 without. Thirty dollars a month for choosing your own processor. Published rather than buried, which is why fee honesty moved from 6 to 7. See Talopet vs Gingr

4. DaySmart Pet, 4.8. The worst fee structure here, which is the whole story. AI is thin and gated upward.

  • Phones 2, cost 7, fee honesty 5, depth 8, payment freedom 3, portability 5
  • April model: about $3,100 real against a $69 headline
  • DaySmart Pet's published pricing charges $10 more per month on every tier if you decline their processing, plus $9 per user past the included seats. See our DaySmart alternative breakdown

5. GrooMore, 3.8. Cheap, clean, honest about what it is. Zero on phones and a 2 on depth sinks it, and it never pretends otherwise. I respect that more than a mid-tier product with an AI sticker on the box.

  • Phones 0, cost 6, fee honesty 7, depth 2, payment freedom 8, portability 4
  • Free tier plus low-cost paid plans, per the GrooMore listing on Capterra
  • No free migration

Those costs are modeled from published pricing for one salon profile, built in April 2026 and rechecked in August. Yours will differ. Verify on each vendor's site before signing, ours included. The narrower per-vendor AI grading lives in our full AI scorecard for pet grooming platforms. This post is the methodology behind that one.

"Of course the software company ranked itself first"

Yes. Obviously. So run this test.

Set AI phone answering to zero. Delete the category we most conspicuously benefit from and redistribute those 30 points across the other five. Talopet lands at 8.9. MoeGo 8.0, Gingr 7.7, DaySmart 5.8, GrooMore 5.4. First place doesn't move, because the flat pricing, payment freedom, and free migration were doing real work. But the margin moves, and hard.

Our lead over MoeGo drops from 2.4 points to 0.9, and Gingr closes to within 1.2. What the AI category actually does is separate the top three from the bottom two, not put us on a pedestal. If phones genuinely don't matter to your salon, this is a far tighter market than our headline number suggests, and you should buy on cost and depth instead.

Rerun it with your own weights. Solo groomer who likes answering her own phone? Drop AI to 5% and our lead narrows a lot. I wouldn't argue.

Where Talopet actually loses

We're newer than Gingr and DaySmart, so we carry thinner review volume on G2 and Capterra and fewer decade-old integrations. If review count weighs heavily for you, that's a legitimate mark against us and I won't explain it away. Gingr beats us on deep multi-service resort operations, full stop, and I said the same thing when I ran this rubric across boarding and daycare platforms, where Gingr finishes second and takes first outright if you zero out the phone weighting. And MoeGo's mobile app is better than ours for van-based groomers.

What changed since April

Three of our numbers have moved or gotten softer, and publishing the model without saying so would be dishonest.

Gingr no longer quotes privately. Their page now publishes Spa at $109/mo, Play at $169, Stay at $179 with integrated payments, cheaper annually. Real improvement, and I've marked it as one.

The MoeGo AI add-on price is the weakest line in our model. I could not verify the $79/mo figure anywhere on MoeGo's published pricing page in August 2026, which lists Basic, Growth, and Ultimate at $49, $99, and $159 with SMS capped per tier and no separately priced AI receptionist. Treat that line as unconfirmed.

Our April model assumed about $25 per extra user on DaySmart. Their page says $9, so our $3,100 is probably high. Position holds anyway, because the processing penalty and thin AI are what put them fifth.

And our own price moved, which is the one I'm most obligated to flag. The April model had Talopet at $149 flat, or $1,788 a year. That number is dead. Plans now run $99, $199, and $299, with the AI receptionist bundled from the middle tier, so the honest comparable for a salon that wants the phone answered is $199 a month. That's $2,388, which is $600 worse than the figure we were quoting in the spring. I'm using the higher number throughout this post because quoting our old price in an article about invoice honesty would be exactly the thing I'm criticizing.

Test it yourself in twenty minutes

Call your own salon after closing tonight and listen. Then pull last month's phone bill, count the missed calls, multiply by your average ticket. Laurel, a Nashville salon owner, ran Talopet's AI receptionist for pet groomers for 30 days and got 138 calls answered, 41% converting into 56 new appointments, $2,680 recovered in month one, and 23 bookings that arrived after the lights were off. Her words: "I was convinced I was getting 'most' of the calls. Turns out I was getting maybe half. The AI receptionist is the first thing that's actually paid for itself."

The operational half is the four-groomer Spokane salon in what actually changes when you switch to Talopet: $34K months became $41K months in 90 days, online bookings up 45%, no-shows down 80%.

FAQ

What is the best pet grooming software with AI in 2026?

Talopet, at 9.2 out of 10 on a published six-category rubric weighting AI phone answering 30%, real twelve month cost 20%, fee-structure honesty and operational depth 15% each, payment freedom and data portability 10% each. MoeGo follows at 6.8, Gingr 6.4, DaySmart Pet 4.8, GrooMore 3.8. The gap comes from phone answering being included rather than upsold, and from flat pricing with no per-user or per-booking fees.

Is this ranking biased because Talopet published it?

Yes, which is why the weights are printed instead of hidden. The useful test is changing them. Set the AI category to zero, redistribute those points across the other five, and Talopet still finishes first at 8.9, but our lead over MoeGo shrinks from 2.4 points to 0.9 and Gingr closes to 7.7. Weight AI at 5% and the lead narrows further, so buy accordingly. A ranking that shows its math can be argued with. One claiming neutrality can't.

Does MoeGo have an AI receptionist?

Not in the sense of software that answers a ringing phone and books the appointment. MoeGo's AI covers scheduling suggestions, message drafting, and grooming notes, useful but a different category from phone answering. As of August 2026 no separately priced AI receptionist appears on MoeGo's own pricing page. That's why MoeGo scores 4 rather than 8 in our heaviest category. Our AI receptionist ranking for grooming businesses breaks it down further.

When is Talopet the wrong choice?

Run a boarding and daycare resort with heavy multi-service operations and Gingr's depth beats ours today. Work out of a van and live inside a phone app, and MoeGo's mobile experience is better. Need a calendar and nothing more, and GrooMore's free tier is the rational purchase while paying us would be waste. I'd rather say that than sell you automation you'll never switch on.

Back to those two numbers. The $2,388 and the $4,200 are the same salon, same month, same 180 bookings. What separates them isn't a feature grid. It's whether the price on the page is the price on the invoice, and whether the thing you bought picks up the phone. Our 2026 pet grooming software roundup, the full 2026 rankings page, and the AI pet grooming software overview all sit downstream of those two questions.

Run the rubric with your own weights, and if you want to see what the AI command center does after the call ends, start there.

Every dollar figure in this post was read off the vendor's own pricing page on August 7, 2026, not taken from an aggregator. That distinction matters: aggregator price fields lag badly. On the date of writing, Capterra listed Revelation Pets at $39/$55 a month against the $60/$77 published on the vendor's own page, and Gingr at $95/$135/$150 against a vendor page showing $109/$169/$179.
