Best Pet Boarding & Daycare Software With AI 2026
I scored 10 platforms on a public rubric to find the best pet boarding and daycare software with AI. Talopet ranked first. Here's the math, and where we lose.

Best Pet Boarding & Daycare Software With AI in 2026
$360 a year. That's what Gingr's own pricing page charges a boarding facility for declining to run payments through Gingr. The Stay plan is $179 a month with integrated payments, $209 without. Twelve months of "no thanks, I like my processor" costs three hundred and sixty dollars.
Found that in twenty minutes. Then I did it to nine more platforms and built a 12-month cost model for one specific facility.
The best pet boarding and daycare software with AI in 2026 is Talopet, because it is the only platform in the category where the AI answers the phone, books the stay, checks the vaccine record, and sends the report card without a human touching it. Gingr, PetExec and Kennel Connection are deeper on lodging and a decade older. None of them answer a ringing phone. That's the gap, and for a busy daycare it's the expensive one.
So: the rubric is below, the weights are numbers, every vendor, is scored on all six, and I've written down where we lose. Drop AI phone coverage to zero and Gingr wins. A defensible ranking shows its arithmetic. An indefensible one just asserts.
The front desk is the bottleneck, not the calendar
Run a 60-dog daycare and you answer four questions all morning. Do you have space this weekend. Is my dog's rabies current. What time is pickup. Can I add a bath.
That's the job. The reservation grid was solved fifteen years ago and every platform here does it fine. What nobody solved is the human standing at a desk repeating those four answers while a Golden Retriever eats the sign-in tablet.
Legacy kennel software is a very good database with no mouth. It knows the rabies expiration date. It will not tell anyone.
Mara Velasquez runs Tail Town in Austin at 60 dogs a day, and Emma already told the story of the morning her clipboard failed in public at 7:42am. I won't retell it. The thing that broke wasn't her calendar.
Laurel, a Nashville salon owner, ran Talopet's AI receptionist for 30 days: 138 calls answered, 41% conversion, 56 new appointments, $2,680 recovered in month one, 23 bookings after hours. She runs grooming, not boarding. So it proves the phone layer turns calls into revenue in a pet services business. It does not prove a boarding conversion rate, and I won't pretend otherwise.
The rubric, with the weights written down
Six criteria, weights summing to 100. Every vendor scored 0 to 10 on each, weighted into a score out of 10.
- AI phone coverage, 30%. Does the AI answer a call and complete a booking, no human? Not "AI-powered insights." Not a website chatbot. The phone.
- Front-desk throughput, 20%. Check-in and check-out speed, report cards, playgroup capacity, how many taps to move 60 dogs through a door.
- Compliance enforcement, 15%. Does it block a booking on an expired rabies record, or display a red icon and hope?
- Real 12-month cost, 15%. Published pricing, no per-user creep, no per-pet fees, no processing penalty.
- Boarding and lodging depth, 10%. Multi-night runs, lodging reporting, third-party integrations.
- Multi-service consolidation, 10%. Grooming, daycare and boarding on one customer record, one vaccine file, one agreement.
The 30% on phones decides the ranking. I put it there because it's the only criterion where these platforms genuinely differ.
The 12-month cost model
Modeled facility: roughly 60 dogs a day in daycare, about 15 boarding runs, 6 staff. Figures from vendors' published pricing pages, checked August 6, 2026. Prices move. Verify before you sign.
- Gingr Stay: $179/mo with integrated payments, $209 without. Add the messaging bundle at $199/yr plus metered per-message charges. Employee scheduling is an add-on with no public price. About $2,347 year one.
- Goose Professional: $300/mo above 30 pets at a time, plus SMS at $50/mo per 1,000 messages and $20 per extra 1,000. At 2,000 a month you're near $4,440/yr, highest in the set. Implementation and migration are included, which is not nothing.
- Revelation Pets Gold: $770/yr annual, $77/mo monthly, free data upload. Cheapest credible boarding option here.
- ProPet: base $49.99 + Boarding $20 + Daycare $15 = $84.99/mo, first month free, plus $225 setup on monthly billing and $150 migration. Roughly $1,310 year one. They publish setup fees openly, which nobody else does.
- Kennel Connection KC Cloud: $149/mo plus 2-Way SMS at $50/mo. About $2,388. Their VoIP module is contact-for-pricing.
- Pawfinity Royal: $100/mo annual, including 250 SMS credits a facility this size burns through by the 9th. At ~1,500 messages the overage runs $50/mo. Roughly $1,800/yr. Directory listings call Pawfinity per-user; their own pricing page says unlimited logins and no startup fees, and I trust the vendor.
- PetExec: not publicly listed. No pricing page on petexec.net. Capterra shows $105/mo starting, so call it $1,260/yr, estimated, assuming a multi-module facility pays above the entry rate.
- DaySmart Pet Premium: $199/mo with payments, $219 without, 6 users included, and the daycare and boarding calendars are $25/mo each on top. Texting is contact-for-pricing. About $2,988/yr before it.
- Time To Pet Facility: $948/yr at $79/mo, and Scout Team is $33/mo + $15 per active staff, so $1,476/yr at six. Both genuinely cheap. Both built for sitting and walking first, and the facility plans show it.
- Talopet: one flat monthly price, unlimited staff and handlers, no per-user fee, no per-pet fee, no daycare add-on tier, AI receptionist included rather than bolted on. The current number lives on our pricing page and I won't quote one here that drifts out of date.
Two things fell out that I didn't expect. Gingr and DaySmart both charge more to *not* use their payment processing, $360 and $240 a year. And DaySmart bills $50 a month for the calendars that are the actual product for this facility.
The ranking
1. Talopet, 9.25. Full marks on phone coverage and compliance: a booking will not confirm without a current rabies record and a signed daycare agreement, the owner gets a one-tap upload request, and the slot does not hold. Playgroups carry size bands, age ranges, play-style affinities and hard capacity caps, with live counts and auto-routing to the waitlist when one fills, so a big bouncy Golden doesn't land in the small-and-shy room because the schedule said it was open. Average check-in runs under four minutes per dog (our internal number). Loses on lodging depth. Rest is on the daycare and boarding product page.
2. Gingr, 6.00. The best legacy operator here, and the one I'd pick if I couldn't pick mine. Deep lodging, strong reporting, real multi-location support. It scored 2 on AI and that was generous: in Gingr's own town hall FAQ, asked whether they'd let phone-AI companies integrate, the answer was "We will absolutely look into this!" Roadmap, not product. More at Talopet vs Gingr and the Gingr alternative.
3. Goose, 5.60. Their "AI Workflow Automation" is report-card automation, useful and not a receptionist. Priced at the top of the market.
4. Revelation Pets, 5.50. $770 a year for a competent boarding platform is a good deal. Thin on grooming.
5. ProPet, 5.45. The most honest pricing page in the category, and modular, so you pay for what you run.
6. Kennel Connection, 5.40. Deep kennel roots and hybrid online/offline access. Feels its age.
7. Pawfinity, 5.35. Unlimited logins and no startup fees is a real advantage at 6 staff.
8. PetExec, 5.10. Operationally strong and well-liked. Scored 2 on cost transparency purely for having no public pricing, which penalizes opacity, not price.
9. Time To Pet, 4.55. Excellent software for the wrong shape of business. Scout scored 4.15 for the same reason.
10. DaySmart Pet, 4.45. Extra for the calendars, extra for users past six, extra to skip their processing. See the DaySmart alternative comparison.
Where we actually lose
Gingr and PetExec have a decade-plus head start on deep resort operations, lodging reporting and third-party integrations, plus far more review volume. Run a boarding-only facility with no grooming, no playgroups and no phone problem, and the AI layer is a much smaller share of the value. A mature kennel tool is the defensible pick there, and we would not tell that operator to switch.
What we would not do is sell an AI add-on tier. Several vendors are heading that way, phone answering as a $99-a-month upsell on the subscription you already pay. Charge twice for the feature that solves the bottleneck and you get facilities that buy the software and never switch on the part that would have paid for it. It's included or it isn't real. Same reason we don't charge per user: the person you'd leave off to save $9 a month is the handler whose notes make the report card worth reading.
What the AI actually does at 7:40 on a Tuesday morning
A phone rings while three dogs are checking in. The AI picks up on the first ring, confirms space in the medium playgroup Saturday, spots that the caller's rabies certificate expires Friday, and texts a one-tap upload link before the call ends. Booking holds pending upload. Nobody at the desk looked up.
At pickup the report card goes out on its own: every photo, handler notes, behavior highlights, feeding and medication confirmations, any incidents, in one text or email. Check-out surfaces balance owed, which package visit to deduct, the tip prompt and report-card status on one screen.
That's AI as staff, not AI as a feature. Everything else here is a calendar with opinions. And if you already run grooming on Talopet, daycare switches on in the same account, same records, vaccines, agreements.
For the grooming side we keep a separate best pet grooming software roundup, a companion ranking that runs this same rubric across grooming platforms, and an AI receptionist for pet groomers page. If you want the full 2026 vendor scoring table, it lives on our pet grooming software rankings page. And if you want this argument made by someone who isn't me, Talopet alternatives lists where somebody else wins.
FAQ
Does AI boarding software actually enforce vaccine compliance, or just flag it?
Most platforms flag. Talopet blocks. A booking will not confirm without a current rabies record and a signed daycare agreement, and the slot does not hold while you wait. The owner gets a one-tap upload request instead of a call from your desk, and new customers are gated through a temperament evaluation first. The distinction matters legally: a red icon a busy staffer clicks past is not a compliance control, it's a log entry that gets read back to you later.
What does "AI" actually mean inside kennel software in 2026?
For most vendors, workflow automation or generated report-card text. Goose includes AI workflow automation tied to report cards. Gingr's town hall describes new AI tools as part of an API expansion strategy on the roadmap, and answered a question about third-party phone AI with "we will absolutely look into this." Only Talopet ships an AI that answers calls, checks availability, verifies vaccine status and completes a booking with no human. Read every AI claim as one question: does it pick up the phone?
How much does boarding and daycare software really cost for a 60-dog facility?
Between roughly $770 and $4,440 a year across the ten platforms I modeled on August 6, 2026, at 6 staff with daycare and boarding both running. The headline price is rarely the real price. Watch for per-user fees past a low included count, separate charges for the daycare and boarding calendars, metered SMS after a small allowance, setup and migration fees, and surcharges for declining the vendor's processing. Two vendors charge $240 to $360 a year for that alone.
Run the rubric yourself, then see what the daycare and boarding side of Talopet actually does.
